Beauty in the Broken

So many metaphors in life for finding Beauty in the things and places that are broken. We can’t avoid heartbreak, illness, loss, the broken plates, the spilled milk…It is a process of taking these fragments and making things whole again. I’m teaching a course on a subject close to my heart: artist built environments, with a focus on mosaic, of course. I’ll be sharing images of mosaic visionary environments from my travels, and in the studio we’ll be making mosaics based on this inspiration. More info below, and I hope you’ll join us! NOV 10-11 at John Michael Kohler Arts Center  on the beautiful shore of Lake Michigan in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.

In the studio, Lillian will demonstrate mosaic cutting and setting techniques for varied materials, and her warm teaching style supports your creative process. She will teach a dynamic mosaic process setting directly into mortar. The uneven surface creates a vibrant effect as you uncover unexpected relationships inherent in found materials. Start gathering your broken treasures! Upon registration you’ll be sent a course outline with considerations for materials to bring. Each student receives a surprise goody bag including “Wandering Wisconsin” Art Environment map!

“Lillian gives you the opportunity to explore your creativity, as well as giving technical expertise on mosaic art. Lillian is a caring, generous teacher. You will be so proud of the work you have accomplished in class!”  — K. N. Oakland, CA
